This paper summarizes the activities carried out and the results achieved by twin projects, ADOPT and ALTSET, funded by the Standards, Measurement and Testing Programme of the EU, concerning pre-normative works on optical and calorimetric characterization of glazed units for building applications. ADOPT (Angular Dependent OPTical properties measurements) was mainly focused on the experimental determination of angular properties of coated and uncoated glass sheets and the development of algorithms for the prediction of angular transmittance and reflectance, starting from (near) normal values. ALTSET (Angular Light and Total Solar Energy Transmittance) intended to establish testing procedures and recommendations for light transmittance and solar factor measurements on complex glazed units.
