Those who say the refractory industry is old are right. The oldest known furnace was built with sun-dried bricks in Yarim-Tepe, Iraq, around 6000 B.C. In a sense too, the history of the ages; Stone Age, Bronze Age, Iron Age, is a history of refractory technology. This article explores the history of refractories through the ages, and today.
