Refractive Indices Of Glasses In The Y-Al-Si-O-N System

The refractive indices varied from 1.748 to 1.853, and the densities from 3.67 to 4.06 g/cm3. An increase in refractive index correlated with an increase in nitrogen content; however, an increase in density correlated with an increase in yttrium content. The ionic refractivity of nitrogen ions in the glasses was calculated to be 66.6, and is consistent with nitrogen ions in threefold coordination with silicon ions.
