Reduction Of The Solubility Of Fluorcanasite Based Glass Ceramics By Additions Of Sio2 And Alpo4

Florcanasite glass ceramics are of interest as materials for aesthetic dental restorations. In an attempt to control the solubility of a fluorcanasite glass ceramic, systematic additions of SiO2 and AlPO4 were made. Solubility was reduced from 2359 to 624 mgcm-2. There was an initial increase in biaxial flexural strength, 123-222 MPa with small additions; however, larger additions reduced the strength to 147 MPa. These findings were attributed to there being an increased volume fraction of residual glassy matrix.
