Reducing Furnace Energy Consumption Using Calumite

Calumite brand slag is an environmentally beneficial alumina source used in all types of soda-lime-silica glassmaking. Its melting and refining properties enable glassmakers to reduce furnace energy consumption, reduce NOx and CO2 emissions and improve final glass quality. In this article the author examines examples of energy savings that have been seen on introducing Calumite to the batch of different container glass furnaces, including reduction of total energy and specific reduction in the use of electric boost.
