Reducing The Contamination Of Effluent Gas From Glass-Melting Furnaces

Experiments have been carried out to determine the effect of various methods of granulation on batch carryover in continuous glass furnaces. Three commercial furnaces melting 13, 10 and 14.5 tonnes/day respectively were used to melt flat, opal and borosilicate glasses with oil, natural gas and LPG as fuels. The results indicated that in all cases the use of granulated batches should enable significant reductions in atmospheric pollution to be achieved.
