Redox Behaviour Of Sn4+/Sn2+ In Alkali Free Aluminosilicate Glasses And Melts

The redox behaviour of Sn4+/Sn2+ in alkali free aluminosilicate glasses and melts was investigated. Model glasses in the system BaO-CaO-Al2O3-SiO2-B2O3 with Tg~830-700 deg C were doped with 50-5000/ppmw Sn as SnII- and SnIV-compounds and melted between 1500-2000 deg C for different times under air and/or argon atmosphere, normal and low pressure (to 100/mbar). The resulting glass samples were studied by spectroscopic methods, optical absorption, photoluminescence, 119Sn Mossbauer.
