The collection and recycling of glass bottles is now widely practised and current methods have been previously reviwed. The recycling of plastic containers, however, presents greater difficulties, owing to the need to separate the principal polymers with a high degree of precision. If this is not done the reclaimed material has a low market value. This article reviews the operation of a modern plastics recycling plant in the UK.
