The latest D&G Consulting report predicts 16% growth for windows in the new build housing sector over the next three years and 11% growth in home extensions. Together, these two sectors are likely to make up 14% of the window market alone by 2016. In 2013, the new build housing market was divided approximately 75%-25% between private and social housing starts and, overall, 37% of new builds were flats, 24% were terraced and 23% were detached homes. There were more new starts in the south than in the north, but there are very positive signs now that the recovery is spreading out across the country. What this means for fabricators and installers is that, with 80% of new build properties now featuring PVC-U windows, there are opportunities across the housing sector if they have the skills, resources and of course products to take advantage of them.
