Recording Indentation Apparatus For The Mechanical Characterisation Of Glasses Immersed In Different Aqueous Solutions

A recording indentation apparatus id described which is suitable for the mechanical characterisation of glasses immersed in different aqueous solutions or in dry air. The penetration depth and load can be measured simultaneously as a function of time, depth vs load curves can be derived. The ability of the apparatus to obtain information on hardness, Young's modulus and creep behaviour is demonstrated.
