Dispersion analysis is a method of studying the optical absorption spectra for investigating the optically induced transitions, yielding information about the band structure of glasses. The method is based on fitting spectra calculated with a band model for the complex dielectric function on measured spectra. The present form of the band model that is widely used to describe disordered media like glass uses a convolution of the Lorentzian and Gaussian Probability Density Functions (PDF). Although this model has proven to be quite successful, it fails to describe asymmetric bands in which the low frequency tail is more occupied than the high frequency tail.
