Quinn Glass has been invited to submit a fresh planning application for its new container plant near Chester, even though its original planning application was refused. Quinn is confident that any new planning application it might make would address any issues that are preventing the matter from being finalised. Government Minister Ruth Kelly has commented that objections on economic & competition grounds from other glassmakers are not relevant from a planning perspective. Further emissions control equipment has been installed at the plant by Quinn Glass, which now claims to be the cleanest glass plant in Europe. Ms Kelly has welcomed the change from an old power station to a clean manufacturing site creating 550 jobs, and has indicated that a revised planning application that meets concerns might well be granted.
