Quinn Glass Wins Long-Running Battle

UK Secretary of State for the Dept of Communities & Local Government John Denham secured the future of the Quinn Glass plant 3 Nov/09, thanks to his decision to allow Cheshire West & Chester Council Planning Committee to finally approve its planning application for the facility. Quinn has won a long-running battle over the planning approval of its £300M glass container manufacturing & filling facility at Elton. Ardagh Glass has been fighting the local council in the UK courts to prevent the granting of retrospective planning permission to the Quinn facility, without success. After the failure of the first legal attempt by Ardagh, the presiding judge instructed the council to issue an enforcement notice against Quinn instructing it to cease production & demolish its factory. However, after a successful appeal by Quinn, the implementation of that order was also suspended. In a statement after receiving the decision, Quinn Glass director Adrian Curry described the approval as "great news" adding that the company was "delighted that common sense has prevailed in the end".
