Quick Phase Separation And Crystallisation Of Sodium Magnesium Alumina Silicate Glass

A rapidly crystallised glass ceramic in the sodium magnesium alumina silicate system was prepared. The phase separation and crystallisation of glass treated under different conditions were investigated by DTA, XRD and SEM, respectively. The exothermic effect of phase separation of glass was measured by DTA. Many small nuclei of phase separation were clearly observed by SEM. Results indicate that thermal treatments in the nucleation temperature range have little influence on the exothermic behaviour of phase separation, the exothermic effect corresponding to initial growth stage of phase separation and to the number of nuclei affecting the microstructure of phase separation.
