A newly designed plunger mechanism with integrated assessment and exertion of influence on gob weight has been developed by German firm, GPS-Glasproduktions-Service. GPS Process Control+, says the firm, has an encoder with position measuring along the total stroke. This encoder is integrated in the plunger mechanism. The pressing data, which is calculated via the encoder, instantaneously influences the height adjustment of the tube and, optionally, a GPS Servo Feeder, thereby directly regulating gob weight. The gob weight is checked and regulated constantly between predetermined and self-adjusting tolerances. Each faulty pressing process is recognised, assessed and analysed. The faulty article is removed directly from the production process by means of a signal on an existing hot-end reject. See: www.gps-essen.de
