Quality Inspection And Process Control In The Glass Container Industry By Optical Measurements With Industrial Image Processing Systems

The aim of process monitoring is the output of high-quality products with outstanding performance characteristics. As a certain percentage of rejects cannot be avoided, post-process inspection is an absolute necessity. An on-line measuring system for the non contact inspection of glass containers at the hot end tests the outer contour and the condition of the container side walls by an optical, ie a non-contact and non-destruction technique. As the characteristics of the containers also carry information about the manufacturing process, the optically measured data allows conclusions to be drawn on essential parameters of the manufacturing line between melt and moulding. Thus, on-line hot-end inspection constitutes a profitable link between quality inspection and process monitoring.
