According to reports, ASAS, a newly-established local promoter of small and medium business ventures, is establishing a project to build the first laminated glass factory in Qatar. The Zujaj project is estimated to cost around QR30M. Production is expected to begin the the third quarter of 2010. Capacity is expected to be around 600,000 sq/m with laminated glass constituting a third, toughened glass a third and double glazing and other glasses, including coloured glass, also a third. ASAS has commissioned Australian supplier Lisec to be the technology provider, while Tamglass of Finland will construct the furnace. Flat glass will then be imported from Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
