A Pyrolytic Route For The Preparation Of Oxynitride Glasses

A combined sol-gel and polymeric route has been used for the preparation of glasses in the (Mg, Al, Si)(O, N) system. In a first step, MgO SiO2-gels were prepared, calcined and mixed with an electrochemically prepared aluminum nitride precursor. Caldining in anhydrous ammonia resulted in the formation of (Mg, Al, Si) (O, N) powders. Subsequent melting using high heating and cooling rates and short soaking times led to the formation of oxynitride glasses posessing nitrogen contents up to 7.95 wt%.
