Tableware capacity in Europe far exceeds domestic demand, according to Tony Pike in his Messe Asia lecture in Tokyo earlier this year entitled "The Prospects for European Tableware". Manufacturers face the alternative of either a reduction in capacity or a concerted drive into non-European markets.
