Properties - Structure Relations Of Zn0-Pb0-B203 Glasses

Density, Vickers' hardness, transformation temperature and thermal expansion of xZn0.2xPb0.(100-3x)B203 glasses have been investigated as a function of composition. Variations of the properties around 50 mol% (Zn0+Pb0) are attributed to nonbridging oxygen ions formed in the borate matrix. Parameters are given to calculate the density in the Zn0-Pb0-B203 glasses. Results indicate that the fraction of modifier oxide given from a Zn0 content is lower than that given from an equal Pb0 content.
