[Prop 65] California Bill To Ban Lead-Bearing Materials For Glass Bottle Decoration Passed

SB 774, which would ban the use of lead-bearing colors for glass bottles distributed in the State, has been passed by the California Senate Committee on Environmental Quality. The Bill will now be considered by the Senate Committee on Appropriations. This would apply to decorating materials that contain lead or lead compounds in excess of 0.06% Pb by weight & would specifically invalidate the portion of the state's Toxics in Packaging legislation (TPL). TPL legislation allows a company to use lead-bearing enamels for decoration if the bottle were to pass a TCLP test. The TCLP exemption expires in 2010.
