Progress In Egypt

A new automatic glass tableware factory has opened in Egypt, construction of a new bottle factory has begun, & a second float glass line is being discussed. The Egyptian Company for Modern Glass Manufacture has set up the tableware factory at 10th of Ramadan City. The company is owned by the son of the owner of City Glass, also in 10th of Ramadan City. Ground digging and equipment procurement for the new bottle factory was due to start by the end of January. A Government project in association with Egypt's Academy of Science and technology is, meanwhile, looking at how the productivity, quality and cost base of the country's glass industry can be improved. Costs are increasing largely because exchange rates have increased the price of imported soda ash by 35% over the past few months, but the exchange rates have made imported glass less competitive.
