Glass is drawn vertically downwards from a feeder as thin tubing which is immediately flattened by passing through a series of specially shaped roller, each pair of roller constituting a stage in the flattening process. After the last pair of flattening rollers the two foils are operated by rollers placed suitably apart; the edges of the pair of foils can be first severed by suitable tools.
