Process Modeling Of Low-Level Mixed Waste Vitrification Systems

A chemical process simulator was applied to low-level mixed nuclear waste vitrification system to model melter thermodynamics. Objective of this simulator was to integrate the models of chemical/phase equilibrium and mass/energy balance into a single model. Surrogate sludge from the Savannah River Site M-area was the model feed stream. Melting of this was simulated in both sitrred and cold-top melters.
