Process For The Manufacture Of Float Glass Utlising Regular And Auxiliary Heating Elements.

The float chamber is heated to operational temperature by regular and auxiliary heating elements mounted in the upper portion of the chamber. The auxiliary elements are positioned away from the area where the glass ribbon is established, and during operation these elements are maintained at a lower temperature than the regular elements, any contaminants in the protective gas atmosphere condensing on the cooler elements away from the glass ribbon. The temperature profile of the chamber can be uniformly controlled.
