During the production of flat glass by vertical drawing, the bath of glass situated in the end part of the drawing kiln is subjected to a supplementary heating which extends the full width of the kiln, and is localised in such a way as to produce in the upper portion of this end part a vertical thin zone of hotter glass with lower viscosity, constituting a certain separating a further glass current from a return current.
