Process And Apparatus For Increasing The Thickness Of Float Glass

A molten glass ribbon on a float glass bath is confined between the surfaces of a pair of adjustable controlling members positioned in the bath, so the the glass is not allowed to spread freely. A pressurised non-oxidsing gas is blown in ways against each side of the advancing ribbon, thorough the cavity and gas porous refractory material of the controlling means, so that a thin gaseous film is maintained next to the edge of the glass ribbon, preventing adhesion of this to the surface of the controlling members.
