Prns Feature In Parker Report

Environment Minister Michael Meacher was shortly expected to publish the Advisory Committee Report on Packaging. The report, compiled under the leadership of Sir Peter Parker, is likely to have strong recommendations on the way packaging recovery note (PRNs) money is handled. It is expected to focus on several key areas such as how the PRN revenue is passed down the chain and the relationship between industrial waste and domestic waste volumes. Concerns were aired to the committee that it is hard to see evidence of PRN money passing back down the chain to the recycling infrastructure for market and collection development and new reprocessing activity. It may be recommended that reprocessors provide more information about how the PRN money is being spent on the development of recycling which is a fundamental concept behind UK's approach to packaging waste.
