Car sales in the UK are running at more than 4% less than 2005, according to the motor industry trade association SMMT. In the 12 months to the end of July, 1.4M new cars were registered in the UK. This is down 4.2% on the previous year. The SMMT blames high fuel prices for the fall, & is also worried about the potential effects on car sales from the recent rise in interest rates in the UK.
