The National Weights & Measures Lab published 4 Feb/09, the first part of the Government response to the consultation on proposals to implement the EU Directive on Nominal Quantities for Pre-packages 2007/45/EC into UK law on 11 April 2009. The Weights & Measures (Specified Quantities) (Pre-packed Products) Regulations 2009 will de-regulate existing specified quantities for all pre-packaged products, except certain wines & spirits. The key changes to the Regulations are: To reduce the range of sizes of pre-packaged spirit drinks, subject to specified quantities, to 100ml-2000ml; To add 1750ml size for pre-packaged spirits; To reduce the range of sizes of pre-packaged wines, subject to specified quantities, to 100ml-1500ml & 125ml-1500ml for sparking wines; To remove the restriction on the use of the 187ml size for pre-packaged still wines; To remove the requirement for aerosols to be marked only by weight. Guidance for business on pre-packaged specified quantities has also been published.
