Preliminary Investigations Of Ultraviolet Glazing Protection On Paintings In Museums

In this paper a tanning lamp employed to perform an ageing test on an ad-hoc pigment sample was prepared using a very old technique and used as a reference. The filters of the tanning lamp were modified in order to simulate the UV component of solar radiation. Glass sheets, representative of commercial production, filtered the ultraviolet radiation. A sufficiently good correlation was obtained betwen the UV transmittance of each glass and the colour variation of the speciment protected by the corresponding glass sheet.
