Generally, the melting of glass is a highly energy-intensive process. Many different factors affect energy consumption and furnace efficiency, including furnace design, the quality of refractory and thermal insulation. In this paper the author discusses the potential for energy savings by preheating gas and oxygen in oxy-fuel furnaces.
