The manufacture of tall, slim lead crystal articles by pressing is used to discuss the use of predictive identification methods and pinpointing the potential technological problems. The evolution in temperature and deformation fields during the individual stages of glass pressing is analysed with the aid of a virtual model. Data obtained has been used to optimise the distribution of temperature fields in the mould.
