Precipitation Of Cuprous Halides In Borosilicate Glasses

Exciton absorption bands near 400nm indicate the precipitation of curprous halides in certain alkali borosilicate glasses. The precise shape of the absorption can be altered by varying the ratio of bromide to chloride or by varying the heat treatment. The influence of the matrix glass composition on the strength of the exciton bands is discussed.
