It is reported that PPG is sending signals it may shed more holdings from the industry on which is was built. When PPG announced its Q4 earnings in January, Chief Financial Officer W Hernandez said the Pittsburgh-based industrial giant had enlisted outside advisers to aggressively explore alternatives for its underperforming businesses."We expect our coatings & optical businesses to continue to become larger portions of our portfolio. Several of our glass businesses still need to substantially improve their financial performance to meet our corporate objectives." he said. Industry watchers said a move by PPG to sell off parts of its glass operation would not be unexpected. Rising energy costs, competition from Mexico & overseas countries, & the cyclical influence of the auto manufacturing & housing industries have helped push consolidation throughout the glass industry.
