Ppg Develops Grey Auto Glass

PPG Industries has developed what it claims to be the automotive industry's first commercial solar-control glass in a neutral grey colour that meets the US federal light transmittance requirements for passenger vehicles. The new VistaGray glass has recently been on display in Detroit, USA at the North American Int Auto Show. According to Ernst Hahn, vice president of automotive glass OEM products, PPG has applied for a patent on the glass which he believes could soon become the industry standard for aesthetics and performance. He commented that green glass has long been the standard because of its solar control performance. However, he said that the green colour which results from the iron in the formulation to absorb solar energy does not harmonise well with many exterior paint colours and affects the colours of interiors viewed through the glass.
