PPG's aerospace transparencies business launched the brand name of its controllable electrochromic systems for aircraft passenger-cabin windows at the Paris Air Show last June. According to Tom Clark, PPG Aerospace general manager for transparencies, Alteos interactive window systems are the first electrochromic window systems in the world for commercial aircraft passenger cabins. Alteos interactive window systems, which use electrochromic technology developed by Gentex Corporation, have been designed to substitute pull-down, mechanical and other types of shades to improve passenger comfort, interior aesthetics and aircraft operating efficiency. Alteos interactive window systems will be in use on the Boeing 787 Dreamliner jet and the 2010 Hawker Beechcraft King Air 350i airplane.
