Postmortem Study Of Used Refractory Bricks In Eaf Dust Recovery Kiln

The aim of this study is to investigate the postmortem analysis of the used andalusite bricks in EAF dust recovery kiln. The bricks have been damaged by erosion and thermal spalling. Different samples are collected from reaction zone in the furnace and characterized by chemical XRF and XRD, physical (SEM and EDS). It has been found that chloride, oxide and sulfate phases in electric arc furnace dust (EAFD) caused refractory erosion. Oxide phases are detected at the hot side of the bricks while chloride phases have detrimental effects on the cold side of the brick.
