Using carbon-based materials for hot glass contact and forming operations is hardly a recent discovery. Carbon, in the form of charred wood, or carbon-graphite has been used for many years in the glass industry. However, more modern materials technology is able to deliver carbon compounds which can be used to produce dimensionally stable moulds which offer the benefits of traditional wooden moulds and the longevity of steel paste moulds, without the maintenance requirements.
