Polish glassworks Huta Szkla Krosno has started lay-offs which will see 700 employees made redundant in the first stage. "Most will be dismissed in May", said CEO Jacek Soltys. "Then we will see whether the second group will be laid off immediately or at the end of the year". The company plans to reduce the workforce by 1,200. The operation is aimed at regaining profitability for the part of the company which makes glass manually. Mr. Soltys wants to separate the production division from sales & marketing, which will manage the brand. "The sales division will win orders in Poland & abroad & order production for specific contracts. If our glassworks offers attractive conditions, it will win the order. If not, an outsourced company, domestic or foreign, will do it", said Mr. Soltys. Krosno is seeking partners in Ukraine, Romania, the Far East & Slovenia.
