The status of the EU risk assessments of major phthalates, including dibutyl phthalate, butylbenzyl phthalate, di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate, diisononyl phthalate and diisodecyl phthalate, is reported. Numerous examples of claims, which have been made against phthalates, are presented and scientific responses to these claims are reported.
