Pittsburgh - City Of Glass

Pittsburgh, PA, may be better known for its iron and steel forgeries and foundries, but its origins are firmly rooted in over 200 years of innovative glass production, as a new book explains. In addition to the many glass manufacturers now established in the region, a number of suppliers to the industry are also located in the area, together forming the PAGIS group (Pittsburgh Area Glass Industry Suppliers). In this article a look at the history of glassmaking in Western Pennsylvania, based on the book "Glass: Shattering Notions" by A Madarasz, and a brief overview of each PAGIS member is presented.
