Pilkington Boss Takes Charge Of Nippon Sheet Glass

Nippon Sheet Glass, which acquired larger competitor Pilkington Plc in June 2006, has decided to take its new president from the UK subsidiary as the need to develop global operations has grown even more important 2y later. On 23/04/08, President Katsuji Fujimoto, who is due to take up the post of chairman on 27/06/08, said Stuart Chambers is just right for the position because of his wide international experience. "To thrive globally, we need to grow further, & now is a critical time to do so," Mr. Fujimoto said at a press conference in Tokyo. Mr. Chambers, who now doubles as president of Pilkington & executive vice president of Nippon Sheet Glass, is confident about his new role, telling reporters that the Japanese firm now operates in 28 countries & that Pilkington has more international experience now than the parent company had before the acquisition. Nippon Sheet Glass was the world's sixth-largest manufacturer of flat glass with a market share of about 4% before it acquired Pilkington, which was third in the industry with around a 10% share.
