Physical & Chemical Properties Of Mesi03/2-Si02 Films Prepared By The Sol-Gel Method

Silica gel coating films containing various amounts of methyl groups were prepared using methyltriethoxysilane, MeSi(OEt)3, and tetraethoxysilane, Si(OEt)4, as starting materials. Incorporation of methyl groups into Si02 structure lowered the refractive index of the films. The refractive index of the films containing methyl groups decreased by 0.01-0.02 with heat-treatment at temperatures from 200-400 deg C and increased by about 0.02 at temperatures from 500-600 deg C.
