The Bureau of Public Standards (BPS) of the Philippine DTI has established PNS 193:2005 flat glass specification to ensure the safety of the public. DTI Provincial Director Rolando Acuna said the specification has been declared mandatory as it also aimed to protect consumers from proliferation of sub-standard flat glass products in the market. He said the new standards would ensure consumers that flat glass products commonly used at home or in the office are reliable to avoid untoward incident. Local manufacturers will be obliged to secure Public Standard Certification Mark license for flat glass cover by PAS 193:2005, subject to the conditions set by DTI in the implementing Guidelines for the Issuance of PS Certification Mark with the implementation of the new standard. Imports are also governed by the rules.
