Pg Group To Build Us$100M Float Glass Plant

South Africa's PG Group is set to spend more than US$108M on a new float glass plant to be built at Springs, near Johannesburg. The group has 12 glass plants and around 150 outlets and stores in South Africa, Botswana, Nambia, Zambia and the US. PG Group was considering a new plant to raise capacity. "A feasibility study confirmed the need for a new plant" CE Stewart Jennings said. However, Jennings said the strength of the rand against the dollar had forced the company to put the project on hold for a year. Exports account for 30% of the group's total revenue. He said neighbouring countries were being considered amount the location options for the plant because of government incentives for capital investment. He said the S African government should offer more such incentives. However, he also said building the plant in Springs would make economic sense.
