Petcore Tested Pet Barrier Materials

The organisation, Petcore, has confirmed the recyclability of two barrier technologies for PET bottles. The Petcore evaluation committee determined that the material Plasmax, produced by SIG Corpoplast, was suitable for all recyclate applications, while the barrier process ActiTUF developed by M&G could be used in coloured bottles. According to Petcore, ActiTUF fulfils all protocol requirements except for colour and haze in the bottle-to-bottle test. Given the low market penetration and the expected improvements in sorting technologies, the committee had decided to confirm such ActiTUF applications for a period of 2 years for recycling into coloured bottles. Petcore stated that the criteria for the test protocol for bottle-to-bottle recycling were being examined in order to take into account variations observed in today's primary PET market.
