Part L Proposals Welcomed

The latest proposed UK revisions to Part L of the country's Building Regulations, and particularly the introduction of Window Energy Ratings (WERs), have been welcomed by the glassmaker Pilkington plc. WERs combine all factors affecting the energy performance of a window into a single number of rating. The aspects are heat loss; solar gain; and ventilation. An equation has been developed so the rating reflects the effect the window has on the energy consumption of a typical house throughout the year.
