The glass packaging industry has welcomed EU Rapporteur Dorrette Corby's recommendation that material specific targets should not be included in the revision of the Packaging Waste Directive. In the industry's response to Ms Corby's report, David Workman, DG of British Glass said that British Glass supported Ms Corby's recommendations that all materials should share the same minimum recycling target to ensure that competitive balances between materials are maintained. Mr Workman also said that the industry felt the 80% recovery target is too high, explaining that in the UK this would fall exclusively on obligated companies, which could in effect mean a 100% recovery target which would be practically impossible and could only be achieved at huge financial costs.
