Traditionally, oxygen boosting has been associated with ageing and problem furnaces because of its ability to relieve excess pressure and restore falling pull rates. Many glass manufacturers in Europe and the USA will testify to its success. Recent developments in oxygen injection and oxygen burner technology, however, have enhanced the performance of oxygen systems such that they are now an attractive option for increasing output in mid-campaign. This article looks at the types of oxygen boosting system available.
